MAKOplasty Total Hip Arthroplasty is a total hip replacement procedure supported by the RIO Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System, and was designed for patients who suffer from non-inflammatory or inflammatory degenerative joint disease.
Candidates for MAKOplasty may experience:
- Pain while putting weight on the affected hip
- Limping to lessen pressure on the affected hip
- Pain that radiates to the groin, lower back, or to the knee
- Hip pain or stiffness while walking
- Failure to respond to non-surgical treatments
The RIO robotic arm technology provides the surgeon with a patient-specific 3-D model to pre-plan the hip replacement and achieve a new level of precision during the procedure. Real-time data as well as visual, auditory and tactile feedback assist the surgeon in preparing the hip joint and placing implants in the desired orientation with more accuracy.
If your surgeon determines you are a good candidate for MAKOplasty, he or she will schedule a CT scan of your hip 1-2 weeks prior to your surgery date to create your surgical plan for implant placement.
